Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
An astonishing and mindboggling read is in store for both long-time pursuers of scarce and rare hockey cards, as well as relative newcomers to the hobby, thanks to this spine-tingling group of little cards that were cut from boxes of Bazooka Bubble Gum. Also remarkable is the fact that each and every one of the 34 cards offered here were cut to include the dotted lines, resulting in actual grades from professional grading companies, with not one being slabbed "Authentic." Don't worry though, they're the real thing, although this writer remembers seeing full boxes as a kid in wire baskets at the supermarket checkout line and thinking, "They're not real hockey cards and mom won't buy me a whole box of bubble gum anyways!" Anyways, on with the delectable details. Twenty cards have been encapsulated by PSA which has only ever examined 51 total Bazooka cards, with 26 of those "only" earning "Authentic" status, with all of these thus being Pop-1 jobs - yes! Top marks go to #13-Kurtenback at NM-MT 8, followed by NM 7 examples of 2-Mahovlich, 19-Unger and 20-Bouchard. At EX-MT 6 is 3-Van Impe, while 29-Tony Esposito and 24-Bernier are EX 5s. Half a dozen at VG-EX 4 are 12-Sanderson, 17-St. Marseille, 18-Ullman, 26-Hillman, 30-Gilbert and 32-Crozier. The other PSA-graded cards are at VG 3; 1-Phil Esposito, 4-Bobby Hull, 6-Perreault, 16-Boudrias, 33-Schinkel, 34-Ellis and 35-Mikita. The remaining 14 cards sit in SGC holders and include some luscious numbers. Walt Tkazcuk's card #31 is a NM/MT 8 and edges three at NM+ 7.5; 5-Richard, 10-Villemure, and 14-Nevin. Dave Keon, (#11), is at NM 7, as are 21-Edwards, 23-Trottier and 25-Marshall, with 28-McKechnie an EX/NM 6 and 22-Backstrom an EX+ 5.5. A couple of VG/EX 4s, 8-DeJordy and 9-Harris, and two VG 3s, 7-Delvecchio and 27-Ecclestone complete the jackpot. We could rant and rave some more but no real need for that, so to conclude, we'll point out a couple of things to note; each card holder includes two stickers on the upper back; one with a "1 of 1" notation and a price and the other with an inventory number, with the truly spectacular and one-of-a-kind booty subject to a silent reserve. By the way, the two cards to complete the set are Orr and Cournoyer. Good luck in securing this sensational chance of a lifetime.
