Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012

Popular amongst collectors of vintage material and food issues are York Peanut Butter glasses, octagonal cards and iron-on transfers, with this fantastic find sure to tempt such hobbyists. During the 1962-63 season, specially designed pennants like this could be sent away for, so that transfers found under the lids of peanut butter and on bags of York Salted Peanuts could be ironed on to them, creating unique collectibles. As you can see, the original owner of this one, or his/her mother(!), gaffed when ironing on the Canadiens logo here (Leafs and Wings logos were also available through a mail-in offer), but did a swell job with the individual transfers which include HOFers Plante, Sawchuk, Horton, Ullman, Pulford and Pronovost. Pennant is just under two feet in length, 12" at the wide end and has survived in dandy collectible shape, with intermittent soiling and pinholes in the tassels to note. A true hobby rarity!
