Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012

Exceptionally rare "Historical Book" is a unique program from the 1925 opening of the old Madison Square Garden. The December 15 inaugural game rosters of the Americans and Canadiens are included featuring Morenz, Joliat and Vezina. "Tex" Rickard is pictured and profiled in this fascinating 72-page publication along with other important board members instrumental in the construction of that incarnation of the great Manhattan arena. Originally 9x12, this edition was trimmed to 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" and bound as a library book. "Brooklyn Public Library" is punchhole-stamped on the bottom of two pages, including the title page and the one with the portrait of Colonel J.S. Hammond. Nicely preserved with vertical tears on the bottom edge of a number of pages that do not diminish this rare treasure's place as a cornerstone piece in a hockey publication collection. This rarely-seen 72-page program is complete with the front cover included though the original back cover is not present.
A Brooklyn Public Library label sits on the inside of the book cover and “Aug 14 1961” is stamped on the upper right corner of the opposite page, while “Discard” is stamped on the end page inside the back cover of the library book.
