This immensely-important rookie uniform was worn by Jaromir Jagr at the dawn of his Hall-of-Fame career. This is the jersey that Jagr wore in his first ever NHL regular season game, on October 5, 1990, in a 7-4 win against the Washington Capitals. The jersey was worn until the Penguins switched to their new set of jerseys in November. Sewn onto the left shoulder is the 1990 - 41st NHL All Star game patch. The 1990 NHL All Star game was held at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena and early part of the 1990-91 season saw the Penguins continue to wear jerseys with the All Star game patch until a complaint lodged with the NHL by the Hawks, who were hosting the 1991 event, forced the Pens to retire the set. Tagged in the neck by Maska with a fading "52" in ballpoint ink, the Ultrafil also has the CCM and NHL shield logos embroidered onto the tail. "Jagr" sits in the middle of a lengthy black name bar on the back above his numbers and the star forward has signed his name inside behind the crest with a Jagr 68 hologram confirming the sig. Dozens of stick marks and scuffs litter each arm and we find more of the same on the lower front. Board burns and some scattered blood stains can be spotted high up on the right sleeve with some blue board paint transfer apparent over on the opposite shoulder. This shirt turns up on Jaromir's O-Pee-Chee rookie card and the jersey is conclusively photo-matched to the All Star patch, which has a sewing flaw that sets the dome off-centered to the right. Two marks in the white band of the right sleeve are also matched to an included 8x10 photo. LOA's from three different authenticators compliment and secure this jersey's authenticity. The first letter is from Joe Tomon, who obtained the entire set directly from the Penguins, outlining the provenance of this jersey. The second LOA is from noted Penguins Specialist, Casey Samuelson, detailing his methods of photo-matching and authentication. The third and final letter of authenticity is from Stu Oxenhorn of MeiGray Vintage.
