Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
On November 22, 2003 the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club made NHL history by hosting the league's first ever modern-era outdoor game in front of a record 57,000-plus freezing fans in Commonwealth Stadium with millions more watching around the world on television. These jerseys display light game use, as is to be expected, as this special set of uniforms was produced specifically for this historic occasion and only worn during the warm-up immediately preceding the match. Each player wore four game jerseys, one during the warm-up and one per period. Special labeling in the tail includes a set tag with the logo of the Heritage Classic reading "Set #4, November 22nd, 2003" and another tag from the NHL/Meigray Group reading "NHL Game Worn Jersey, 2003-2004 Season" with their inventory control number. Each uniform has the CCM tagging in the hem with a size tag and an additional label from Elite Sportswear in the collar. The NHL Vintage "V" patch sits up on the left breast. This historic uniform will come with a letter of authenticity on team letterhead from the Edmonton Oilers. Hulking defenseman Cory Cross jersey from the historic outdoor match sports his surname and number "23" on the back. Size 58.
