Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Considered by most to be the most coveted of all game programs, this publication was produced for the November 2nd, 1937 game at the Montreal Forum between a team of NHL All-Stars and players from the Canadiens and Maroons. It was organized to benefit the family of Howie Morenz, the Canadiens' star who had died the previous March. Big 9" x 12" 56-page program includes center creasing and edge wear but is complete and solid. Includes wonderful tribute articles penned by Elmer Ferguson, Baz O'Meara and Len Rountree. In one, Conn Smythe is quoted as saying "Hockey owes him a debt of gratitude. His memory will never fade." Also included in the lot is the scarce iron-on transfer picturing Howie in his Montreal Canadiens uniform. He is identified below with the years framing his life listed as "1902-1937" (produced post-mortem) in red. Measures 3 by 7 inches and has been preserved in near-excellent and unused condition with some light color loss.
