Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Spellbinding image of a serious-looking Howie Morenz on this big glass panel from Toronto's original Hockey Hall of Fame leads one to contemplate the life and career of the hockey immortal who died in 1937 at age 34, five weeks after a career-ending injury which led to the embolism that stole him from the hockey world. "Howarth Morenz" appears above Howie's image on this 17-1/2" square, half-inch thick glass (larger than the "new" HOF panels), with words below reading in part "Morenz, whose speed and stickhandling skill earned him the nickname The Stratford Streak, was known as the Babe Ruth of hockey in the U.S. because of his box-office appeal." A few light scratches and a chip in the lower right corner are to note, along with Howie's stirring stare!
