Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
Historic and important memento in this vintage goal puck, plucked from the net after being launched from the straight-bladed stick of the great Maurice "Rocket" Richard back in 1957. The goal, scored on Feb. 20th 1957 vs. Boston at 19.21 of the 1st period with Harry Lumley in goal, was assisted by Dickie Moore and Maurice's younger brother, Henri "Pocket Rocket" Richard. Later, the Rocket would also score his 506th in the 2nd period of the same game. Handwritten on the puck is "Boston 20 fevrier ... 505". The game was played at the Montreal Forum and was won 4-0 by Canadiens. The puck was obviously mounted atop a trophy at some point as the edge shows 2 small mount holes. Small brass numerals have been added proclaiming "505". The puck itself is an official double-sided, rubber octagon Art Ross Tyer gamer, which correct for the period, and has been preserved in excellent condition considering it displays some game use with very light egde wear and chipping. Spectacular!
