Hockey legend Howie Morenz is pictured in the front row of the 1935-36 Black Hawks' team picture on this team-issued Christmas card. Featured in this collection of 8 photos from the family of the late Marty Burke, the card is signed "Marty & Val", likely by the latter. The 5" x 7" paper stock card exhibits some handling and wear, though it remains in nice condition overall. Among the 7 other photos, most roughly 8x10, are 3 shots of members of the Black Hawks, including one of Burke and Gotselig clowning around a card game. A pair of shots from training camp in Hibbing, Minn., both feature Hawks Levinsky, Wiebe and HOFer Seibert. One staged hunting photo also includes coach Loughlin, the other shows Burke and his three teammates posed in winter coats along with a man with an Indian headdress. Coach Burke appears in four Calgary Stampeders photos, including a pair of team photos with the players lined up along the boards. The Stampeders team photos and a shot of Burke and goalie Art Rice-Jones are stamped "Alexandra Studio" on the reverse. This lot comes with an LOA signed by the family of the late Marty Burke. All 7 photos exhibit handling including pinholes in the corners, creasing, damaged/torn edges and/or corners.
Two of the Black Hawks training camp 8x10 photos have “Aubin Photo’s, Hibbing, Minn.” stamped on the reverse with handwritten notations in blue ink. The photo with the Indian headdress has a diagonal crease/tear through Seibert on the left side that has a scotch tape repair on the reverse that folds into the front bottom edge. The posed hunting photo has Loughlin and the Hawks players’ names written on the front.
One of the two Stampeders team photos by Alexandra Studio has the team members’ names listed in handwritten blue ink on the reverse. Rice-Jones and Burke’s names are handwritten in blue ink on the reverse of their Alexandra Studio photo, which has old scotch tape remnants on the reverse over tears in the bottom corners.
