Absolutely spectacular is this rendition of the 1930-31 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens. The reigning Cup champion Habs became only the second NHL team to defend their title when they defeated the Black Hawks in a hard-fought best-of-five final series in the spring of 1931. Offered directly from the family of the late Marty Burke is this spectacular team photo produced by the renowned Rice Studios of Montreal. The images of this great Canadiens team have actually had the uniforms hand-painted by brush! The viewer is held breathless as the captivating appeal and charm is without rival as far as team photographs go. These seldom-seen and rarely-offered masterpieces were only presented to team members and executives. This one, featuring Habs legends Howie Morenz, Aurele Joliat and George Hainsworth, was presented to defenseman Burke, who is also pictured along with the likes of Pit Lepine, Sylvio and Georges Mantha, Albert "Battleship" Leduc, Johnny Gagnon, Wildor Larochelle, Armand Mondou as well as coach Cecil Hart and Hall of Fame executives Leo Dandurand and Joe Cattarinich. Strokes of white paint against the cream-colored background give an on-ice feel to the piece. Nine team directors are pictured above the players while below and to the sides are the playoff results from both the 1929-30 and 1930-31 post seasons. Surrounding the Stanley Cup at the bottom are the words, in French, "Champions of the World" and "Holders of the Stanley Cup". The red, white and blue border has been done in hand as well. Magnificently displayed in a vintage wooden frame, which remains in wonderful condition, the shocking photograph is in outstanding "impossible-to-hope-for-nicer" condition and truly museum worthy. It comes with a signed letter of authenticity from the family of Marty Burke.
