For those piecing together a coveted encapsulated set of C55 cards from 1911-12 comes this VG 3 example of Jimmy Gardner’s #36 rookie card. Gardner, and not “Gardiner” as spelled on the Imperial Tobacco card, played 15 elite amateur and professional seasons, first winning the Stanley Cup with the Montreal AAA “Little Men of Iron” team in 1901-02. A Montreal native who bounced around from team to team, Gardner was with his hometown Wanderers to drink again from Lord Stanley’s bowl in March of 1910 and later was player-coach of the Canadiens. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1962.
