Historical Hockey Memorabilia Spring 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/12/2012
The last card in the first hockey card set features a hockey icon we never tire of recounting the exploits of. Newsy Lalonde would go on to become the first true superstar of the Montreal Canadiens and is pictured here with Renfrew, a team that lured him away temporarily from the big city. Newsy had actually returned to Montreal the season that his rookie card was found in a pack of cigarettes and scored 19 goals in 16 games in 1910-11. He would help the red-white-and-blue to its first Stanley Cup title five years later. Attractive example of card #36 has but corner/edge wear and has been slabbed VG-EX 4 by PSA.
