This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
The 1996 and 1997 NHL playoffs are featured in this lot of 42 In Glas Co pucks in their original “NHL Official Game Puck” plastic packaging. The 1996 playoffs saw the Colorado Avalanche sweep upstart Florida in the final for the franchise’s first Stanley Cup win in its inaugural season after relocating from Quebec City. The 1997 playoffs marked the end of Detroit’s 42-year championship drought as the Red Wings flew past Philadelphia in four straight to win their first Stanley Cup since 1955. There are 21 1996 playoff pucks featuring a screened face with the same logo as the patch worn by the Avalanche and Panthers on their uniforms during the 1996 Stanley Cup final. The 21 pucks from the 1997 playoffs feature a smaller version of that year’s logo screened on the face in the middle of a white ring with “1997” along the top and “Stanley Cup” on the bottom. Both the 1996 and 1997 puck have identical orange ring reverses with commissioner Gary Bettman’s facsimile signature below the NHL shield in the middle. “In Glas Co” appears between the NHL shield on the edge of the puck along with “Made in Canada” and “Official”, all in raised letters.
