Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
The 1997 and 1998 NHL All-Star games are featured in this lot of 68 individual official game pucks. San Jose staged the 1997 game, two years after the All-Star Game they were originally scheduled to host was scuttled by the lockout that delayed the start of the 1994-95 season. Montreal’s Mark Recchi scored three goals to claim MVP honors in the East’s 11-7 win. Hometown hero Owen Nolan scored one of the most memorable goals in ASG history when he drove in and pointed to the top corner before firing a shot there past Dominik Hasek to complete his own hat trick in a losing cause. The 19 pucks from the 1997 ASG feature the Sharks’ all-star logo screened on the face in the middle of a white ring with “1997” on the top and “All Star Game” along the bottom. All 19 In Glas Co pucks come with their original “NHL Official Game Puck” plastic packaging. The 1998 ASG in Vancouver marked the debut of an international format which saw the North American team, comprised on players born in Canada and the U.S., facing a World team made up of the league’s European players. Teemu Selanne’s hat trick was good enough for MVP honors though his World team fell 8-7 to the North Americans. A total of 49 In Glas Co pucks from the 1998 All-Star Game come in individual round “NHL Official Game Puck” cardboard boxes with white lids top and bottom. The face of the 1998 pucks also feature the game’s logo screened in the middle of a white ring with the year and “All Star Game” written on it. Both the 1997 and 1998 ASG pucks display the same reverse, an orange ring with “Official Game Puck” along the top and “In Glas Co” on the bottom, and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman’s facsimile signature below the league’s shield in the middle.
