Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Magnificent 1920s hockey trophy stands a substantial 18” tall overall and features a slender metal cup mounted atop a sleekly rounded wood base. “Verdun City and District Junior Hockey League Championship Trophy for 1925-1926, Donated by Mrs. G.E. Thomas” is boldly engraved on the front of the cup, a narrow, silver-colored metal affair. With a pair of thin, ornately detailed handles on either side, it stands a shade under 13” from top to bottom. The stylish and totally appropriate dark wood base stands 5” tall and has a flat bottom which measures 5 1/8” in diameter. Tarnish was cleaned off to display the engraving on the front. This 85-year-old award exhibits its share of handling, including dents on the lip of the cup and scratches and marks, though overall it remains a fine vintage hockey display piece.
