Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
A first for us is this pre-war "Hockey" 50-cigarette tin box from the Waldorf-Astoria Company. "Hockey" is spelled out in red letters on the top of the lid and both sides of this tin cigarette box from the 1930s. The company took its name from John Jacob Astor, who emigrated to America in the 1700s from the village of Waldorf near Heidelberg in a tobacco-growing region. The namesake of the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York, Astor was America's richest man in his day. Never-before-seen "Hockey" cigarette box remains in very good condition overall with intact lid.
