Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

A Montreal Forum program featuring a wonderful Tex Coulter rendition of Maurice Richard on the cover and one autographed by Elmer Lach are among the highlights of this interesting group of publications. The Rocket cover is from an October 18, 1958 Canadiens game against the Rangers (2-2 tie) and is G-VG with a chip in the upper right corner, near where “#4” in pen appears, while the Lach pub is G with a significant vertical crease. It’s from a 1947-48 game against Chicago and is joined by another 1947-48 affair picturing Bob Carse on the cover. The latter has the lineups for a Habs-Rangers game, as well as for one involving the N.Y. Rovers and Montreal (senior) Royals. A nice EX condition pub is from a January, 1957 game between the Ontario and Quebec Oldtimers, with Toronto’s 1930s’ Kid Line, Syd Howe and Turk Broda suiting up for the former and Blake, Lach and the Mantha brothers skating for the Quebecers. A lower grade rodeo program picturing Roy Rogers and Trigger on the cover is from 1945, while 1960s programs picture Richard (March 18/64 vs. Leafs), Rousseau (Jan. 8/66 vs. Bruins), Talbot (March 11/67) and Larose (April 1/67) on the covers and average VG, with a Harris cover missing the lineup pages. Two yearbook-style publications devoted to the Rangers have the program inserts from a December 4, 1968 game at the new Forum, while a group of nine similar yearbook/program combos from ’69-70 (3 Leafs, 2 Rangers, Bruins, Hawks, Wings, The 50s) are missing the lineup pages in the middle of the programs. Completing the lot are two pubs (Canadiens, The Goaltenders) without the game night programs, with VG as the average grade of the latter group of 13.
