Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Amazing and very scarce Montreal Canadiens collectibles are this pair of silver sugar spoon and spoon from the early days of professional hockey’s most successful club team. Predating the formation of the NHL, the Canadiens were one of the founding members of the National Hockey Association, which began play in 1909-10. The Canadiens’ team crest went through various incarnations, including the one featured on each of these two silver spoons from the early part of the 1910s. Coincidence or not, the beginnings of the Habs’ famous “CH” logo can be seen in the Old English “C” logos on the handle of both of these 100-year-old spoons. The back of each spoon carries a “Brazil Silver” (nickel silver) incised inscription. Each spoon has minor surface wear and scuffing and the pair have been nicely preserved.
