Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
On November 1, 1959, a blast from the Rangers Andy Bathgate opened a gash necessitating seven stitches that prompted Jacques Plante to insist on wearing the mask he had been practicing with, if he were to return to action. The rest is history. By the time Bathgate used this old wooden Northland Pro, both he and Plante were teammates on the Rangers bench. The stick is stamped "Bathgate" with the handwritten number "9" in two spots and has the Gerry Cosby stamp on both sides of the shaft. Best is the addition of 12 signatures, including the autograph of the great Jacques Plante twice, one on each side of the shaft! Also signing are HOFers Harry Howell, Doug Harvey (deceased), and Bathgate. Sigs are lighter but legible, penned in ballpoint ink. The stick itself shows great game use with wear along the bottom of the blade.
