This scarce Ray Bourque 1982-83 Bruins game-worn jersey exhibits amazing wear with tons of marks, board burns and team repairs. From the outset of Ray's HOF career, four years before he gave up Phil Esposito's #7 so that it could be retired, this hammered gamer is one of the earliest Bourque jerseys we have ever offered. Ray posted 73 points in his fourth season with the Bruins, including 22 goals and 51 assists. An NHL postseason All-Star each of his first 17 seasons and 19 times in all, his plus-49 campaign lead to a spot on the Second Team. This road gamer has the elasticized custom cuffs that Ray favoured on these Bruins' heavy mesh jerseys. The fight strap is whole and though tagging in the neck has been cut it measures to a size 54. We believe the nameplate attached on the back, though made from very similar material, is not original to this jersey, its very possible that the original nameplate was removed and replaced by the team possibly during the 1980s, when the Bruins often recycled game-worn jerseys. We count 13 team repairs. Please refer to our website description for details about this jersey's wear. A rare opportunity to obtain a gamer from the early stages of Ray's career before he became the Bruins' longest-serving captain. Team repairs include five on the left sleeve, three on the right, a quarter-sized sewing fix to the right of the number on the upper back, three dime-sized repairs, including the right breast and a pair on the tail, one on the front and another on the rear, and another small repair on the right rear tail. Board burns are displayed on the right breast and both sleeves. Red paint transfer is present on the right sleeve and right rear tail, black marks on the left sleeve and front tail and blue paint transfer on the left rear tail.
