Four-time Indianapolis 500 champion Rick Mears wore this magnificent Penske Racing Team Simpson fire suit during the peak years of his stellar auto racing career in the late-1970s and early 1980s. A three-time Indycar national champion in 1979, 1981 and 1982, Mears still holds the all-time Indy 500 record with a staggering six poles to his credit! Mears's black ink signature sits on the right breast of this racing suit between a pair of Gould patches above where his name is embroidered in blue thread. Please see our website description for more information about this magnificent motor racing lot. The Penske Racing patch is sewn on the right breast pocket, which is frayed along the top edge of its zipper closure. A small black Simpson patch is sewn above Rick’s embroidered name and Gould patches sit above it and on both shoulders. A Sears Penske Quality Products patch is sewn on the right sleeve and a Simpson Safety Equipment patch is sewn high on the left sleeve. Norton, Goodyear and Cam2 Motor Oil patches are sewn from top to bottom along the red and blue stripes on the left side of the front of the zipper front suit with a Velcro-closure lightweight belt across the midriff. Simpson Safety Equipment warning labels are sewn in the back of the neck. A large blue Gould patch is sewn on the back with another embroidered Goodyear patch below it.
