Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
A truly rare autograph to obtain in its own right, the late Gilles Villeneuve's dedicated signature graces a photo of the Ferrari Formula One racing legend pictured with hockey great Guy Lafleur. Villeneuve placed a bold autograph at the bottom of his blue ballpoint notation in French which reads, "Sincerely, to my friend, the best hockey player" on this 8x10 shot of the two Quebec sports legends, which is glued to a cardboard backing. Villeneuve won six Formula One races at the wheel of his Ferrari before his life was tragically cut short at the age of 32 when he was killed in a crash during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Villeneuve, whose son Jacques followed in his footsteps to claim the 1997 Formula One Drivers' championship, is a member of numerous halls of fame, including Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and the Snowmobile Hall of Fame. Villeneuve's autograph is a rare find, and a signed Villeneuve photo is that much more scarce! Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
