Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

The Chicago White Sox have seen their uniforms go through a plethora of styles and incarnations over the course of the South Side team’s existence. This game-issued 1972 Pale Hose road jersey is decidedly of its era, a powder-blue classic the Windy City spelled out in script across the front, which features a zipper closure. “72 Set 1” is spelled out in black thread on the season set patch sewn above the Wilson size 40 tagging on the left front tail. The absence of a tag with a surname in the collar, which is present on all White Sox gamers from that year, means that it was definitely not used in games. Wear in the form of a few small stains and tiny holes, along with the absence of a number on the back and no sign of one being removed, indicate that this team-issued jersey was likely used in training. That said, the elaborate double-twill script team name sewn-on the front, with “White Sox” spelled out in detailed cable stitch white thread within the red tail, and the red and white piping around the cuffs and collar make for a very desirable addition to a White Sox/1970s jersey collection.
