Truly one of the most majestic championship awards in all of sport, the Commissioner's Trophy represents Major League Baseball supremacy. With a new trophy awarded to the World Series champions every year, the New York Yankees stand above all other baseball teams in its pursuit with seven to their credit since it was first presented in 1967. The Bronx Bombers have won a staggering 27 World Series overall, including their 1999 championship over the National League champion Atlanta Braves. With Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neill driving the offense, the Yankees completed a four-game sweep as closer Mariano Rivera claimed World Series MVP honors. That title, a rematch of New York's come-from-behind win over the Braves after dropping the first two games of the 1996 World Series, is represented by this very scarce and absolutely authentic team owners' trophy, one of only a precious few that are presented to front office brass. Produced by world-renowned Balfour jewelers, this 25-inch-tall full-size award weighs a substantial 29 1/2 pounds and is identical to the one presented by baseball commissioner Allan "Bud" Selig to "The Boss", the late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Gold-colored pennants with full team names stamped in black atop flagpoles rising up from the solid and heavy black base represent each of the 30 Major League Baseball franchises that competed that season, including the defunct Montreal Expos, victims of David Cone's July 18 perfect game at Yankee Stadium. The 1999 World Series logo is etched on the face of a silver baseball set at the bottom of a gold-colored 2" wide round ring in the middle of the trophy, which has a crown perched on top. Both the Yankees' and Braves' 1999 World Series pins are displayed in the foreground. "World Series Champions, New York Yankees, 1999" appears in black on the front of the 2-inch-wide gold-colored ring that surrounds the base, with "Copyright (symbol) 1983 Commissioner of Baseball" on the back side of the 13" diameter base. A fascinating opportunity to claim a championship trophy from manager Joe Torre's Yankees dynasty that won four World Series titles in five years, including three in a row from 1998-2000.
