A 1962 Grey Cup pin is featured in this impressive ensemble of five press pins only given to members of the media covering the Canadian Football League's championship game. Commonly known as the “Fog Bowl”, the 50th Grey Cup remains the only edition of the game to have been suspended during play. The weather was normal when play began at Toronto’s Exhibition Stadium on December 1, 1962. However a combination of cold, moist and humid air from Lake Ontario generated a thick fog that began to roll over the field in the second quarter. Conditions deteriorated to the point that fans could not see action on the field and neither could the players themselves. The game was suspended with under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter and Winnipeg holding a 28-27 lead over Hamilton. That ultimately proved to be the final result as neither team scored again when the game was completed the following afternoon. Also included are Grey Cup pins from the 1969 game at Montreal’s Autostade, a 29-10 win for Ottawa over Saskatchewan, and the 1970 game in Toronto, which saw the Alouettes claim a 23-10 over Calgary under woeful field conditions at Exhibition Stadium. Rounding out the lot are a pair of pins from late 1970s Grey Cup games at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, including the Alouettes’ 41-6 “Ice Bowl” win over Edmonton in 1977, and the Eskimos’ 17-9 win over the Als in 1979. These five Grey Cup media pins, originally obtained from the personal collection of renowned broadcaster Ron Reusch, all measure approximately 1" by 1-1/4" and are in gorgeous condition. Great pieces of Canadiana not often offered will excite CFL enthusiasts.
