Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Here is an amazing and rare piece of history - a 1980 United States Olympic Team ring. It was presented back in the day to the American Olympic athletes who competed in Lake Placid, including members of the USA "Miracle on Ice" hockey team that upset the powerhouse Soviets on their way to claiming a stunning gold medal. These historic rings, made of Siladium, a trademarked stainless steel alloy used in jewelry, were not available for sale; you had to compete in the Lake Placid Games to get one! This vintage size 11 1/2 ring displays the team's shield with Olympic rings on the tableau, encircled by the words "United States Olympic Team, 1980". Each shank displays "USA" above the five rings bordered by olive branches. Worn with pride as evidenced by surface scuffs and marks, it remains an exquisite display piece with a miraculous success story behind it!
