Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
This tantalizing 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist salesman's sample gold ring commemorates the young Americans' inspirational triumph at the Lake Placid Olympics. Led by coach Herb Brooks, the team of unknown college players, including the likes of future NHLers, such as Dave Christian, rocked the sports world by stunning the mighty Russians with an upset for the ages before beating Finland to claim Olympic gold. This historic and extremely rare Balfour 10K gold sample ring remains in magnificent condition and is from the identical mold to Christian's and all of the other Team USA players' rings. Five cubic zircons in the form of the Olympic rings are set into a blue tableau with "USA Olympic Hockey Gold Medalists" in raised gold around the bezel. The size 10 band is stamped inside with the "LGB 10K" manufacturer's markings along with the ring's sample number. "Christian" and his number "13" appear on one shank while the Lake Placid logo and scores of Team USA's final two wins are on the other. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
