Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Classic professional image of Ottawa's famous "Silver Seven" captures the Stanley Cup champs and hockey's coveted silver bowl in Pittaway Studio. At that time, Ottawa had been holders of the Stanley Cup for two years and would not surrender it until December of the following year. The famous Dawson City challenge had occurred in January of 1905, while Ottawa edged Rat Portage (later Kenora) 2-games-to-1 in March. The group of Hall-of-Famers standing is Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour and one-eyed great Frank McGee, while team captain Harvey Pulford and fellow Hall-of-Famer Alf Smith are seated in the middle. All are named at the bottom on the grey matt with the title "Ottawa Hockey Club, Champions of the World, 1905". The matting measures out to a whopping 20" x 23" with the image itself coming in at 14" x 17". Although material loss and cracking affects the condition of the backing board, the photograph is untouched and has been preserved in excellent condition.
