This spectacular Mario Lemieux 1991-92 Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup gold ring is a salesman's sample that is virtually identical to the stunning creations presented to members of the back-to-back NHL champions. Struggling at the outset of the playoffs, the Penguins got past Washington in seven games and lost two of their first three against the Rangers in the next round. Everything fell into place after that as Pittsburgh won the next three and went on to sweep Boston in the conference final. Pittsburgh ended Chicago's record streak of 11 consecutive playoff wins, sweeping the Black Hawks four straight to match the Black Hawks' brand-new mark as Super Mario won his second straight Conn Smythe Trophy. This exquisite salesman's sample ring by Balfour features a pair of large cubic zircons representing the Penguins' two Stanley Cups in gold settings set in a black stone on the tableau, and Lemieux's surname and number 66 on one shank. Please see our website description for more information on this remarkable championship ring, which remains in wonderful condition and comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. "Stanley Cup Champions 91 92" surround the outer bezel in raised gold while 16 small cubic zircons are set around the inner bezel. The left shank features "Lemieux", an enamel painted Penguins logo, and Mario Lemieux’s famous number “66”, all in raised gold. "Pittsburgh Penguins" is spelled out in raised gold on the right shank along with a banner that reads "Back to Back" over a pair of Stanley Cups. "LGB 10K" is stamped inside the band of this size 9 1/2 ring, referencing Lloyd Garfield Balfour, the creator of the commemorative jewelry empire.
