Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Gordie Howe is among the members of the 1970-71 Detroit Red Wings who have signed along the shaft of this Northland gamer used by the late Gary Bergman. Mr. Hockey’s vintage black marker autograph, second to the right of the “Olympic Sporting Goods Co. Detroit, Michigan” stamp on the shaft, dates from Howe’s last season in Motown. Fellow HOFer Alex Delvecchio also signed along with Team Canada 1972 alumnus Bergman, who died in December 2000. Charron, Rutherford, Colins, Luce, Brown, Miller, Nielkamp, Ecclestone, Berenson, Hart, Robitaille, Libett, Webster and Wings trainer Lefty Wilson also signed along the shaft, which retains Bergman’s well-worn tape job on the knob. “Bergman” is stamped on the front of the shaft with Gary’s no. “2” in red low on the front of the shaft, just above the two remaining red and white bands. Gary’s small tape job remains intact on the blade, which has a chunk missing from the front edge towards the heel but is otherwise solid, crack-free and all set for a suitable Red Wings shrine.
