This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Fabulous trio of historic autographs features original signatures of hockey pioneers Edward Stanley, F.C. Chittick and Lord Kilcoursie, members of the Ottawa Hockey Club in the 1890s. Stanley, the son of Frederick Arthur Stanley, Canada's Governor General who donated the original Dominion Challenge Cup, was a member of the Ottawa Rebels hockey team. Edward Stanley's bold fountain pen "Derby" signature appears on a letter dated "15 September 1930" from his personal correspondence. Chittick, who played six seasons in goal for Ottawa from 1895 to 1900, has signed in very fine point on a red "Canada" maple leaf. Lord Kilcoursie, an aide to Canada's Governor General, Lord Stanley, whose given name was Frederick Rudolph Lambart, was also a member of the Ottawa Rideau Rebels hockey team. In 1892, on behalf of Lord Stanley, he announced the donation of a special hockey trophy, the Stanley Cup.He succeeded his father as 10th Earl of Cavan in 1900, helping date this fountain pen "Cavan" signature.
