Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
The exceptional artwork of Topps’ 1953 card issue is impressive even when the cards are not in top notch shape, which is the case with this stack. Low grade, with Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, (#1 – no better than G with multiple light creases and a stain in the upper right corner), and 104-Yogi Berra (G) leading the way. At (F) are biggies 37-Mathews, 54-Feller, 76-Reese, 114-Rizzuto, 151-Wilhelm, 207-Ford and 220-Paige, with 77-Mize and 86-Martin a little nicer at G and 78-Schoendienst at VG. Campanella (#27)(P) looks to have been ripped and glued back together. Four high numbers in the G neighborhood are 236, 238, 241 and 252. We count (17) “Poor” cards with back damage (paper loss or glue), with the remainder of the lot in the F, G, G-VG and VG range, with G or G+ as the average.
