Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

Dandy chance here to acquire seven complete sets from the good old 1970s, with condition typically improving chronologically. A '72-73 set starts things off and is followed by a '73-74 ensemble and both NHL and WHA sets from '74-75. Mostly sharp, clean cards from then on, with '75-76, '76-77 and '79-80 sets present. The key Wayne Gretzky rookie card unfortunately does not mirror the rest of the '79-80 cards, but displays rather well, its VG+ grade merited from corner/edge wear and a corner crease in the lower region. Checklists and team checklists are unmarked throughout. Please visit our website for further condition details on this all-'70s collection. Key cards from ’72-73 are in the VG and VG+ neighborhood and we spot similar flaws among many of the rest, although VG-EX and EX grades are also present. The ’73-74 set is better, with Smith RC at EX+, Robinson RC at EX (OC), O’Reilly and Barber RCs similar, but with Orr at VG. EX overall seems fair, with a mix of gray and white backs. The RC-laden ’74-75 set exhibits noticeable corner wear and intermittent small light creases, with RCs of Bowman (EX), Cherry (VG+) and Potvin (VG+) the best and others, as well as Orr and Dryden, closer to VG. A 66-card WHA set from ’74-75 meanwhile is for the most part NM-or-better, with however card #1 of the Howe family EX because of a couple of touched corners. The three most recent sets look real nice and average near mint, with an EX (OC) Trottier RC the most notable exception. Several possibilities to consider here.
