Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
Another splendid pre-war offering is this rookie card of Larry Aurie, a little dynamo who Detroit boss Jack Adams called "the most courageous player, pound for pound, in hockey" and who earned the nickname "Little Dempsey." Big on hockey know-how, Aurie was named Red Wings' team captain and helped Detroit to its first two Stanley Cups in 1936 and '37. This impressive example of card #44 has been slabbed EX-MT 6 by PSA, ranking it in a two-way tie as the fourth highest Aurie example ever graded by the company. Aurie's number "6" was retired by James Norris in 1938.
