Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

Like Clark Gillies, the New York Islanders were a force to be reckoned with in 1981-82 as the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions skated and scored their way toward dynasty status. With Patrick Division teams now members of the Wales Conference, the Islanders were awarded the Prince of Wales Trophy for winning the conference playoff championship, New York sweeping the Nordiques before doing the same to the Canucks in the Cup finals. Clark Gillies contributed a career-high 38 regular season goals and his name, along with that of the trophy, is engraved on a metal plaque applied to one side of the 2-inch high wooden base here, while engraving on the opposite side's plaque reads "NHL Champions - New York Islanders 1981-82." Four silver-plated hockey sticks rise up from the base to support a cup with removable lid, giving the award a total height of 13". The trophy is in impressive near perfect condition, with the green felt beneath the base autographed by Gillies. From a championship season, the award will be accompanied by an LOA.
