Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
They're back! Reborn in 2011, the Winnipeg Jets have a rich history dating back to the WHA. One of the revived franchise's highlights was the 1975-76 season, when the Jets finally made it to the rebel league's summit. Hull, Hedberg, Nilsson and company claimed the first of 3 Avco Cup titles over the WHA's last 4 years. This personal trophy is one of the beauties presented to Jets players and staff, including equipment manager Kelly Pruden. Standing a shade under 13" tall, it has a Bobby Hull silver paint pen autograph placed vertically between the plaques on the black cylinder that could be easily removed, if you were so inclined. Please see our website description for more information about this original WHA championship trophy which comes with a Classic Auctions LOA. Pruden’s name appears on the plaque beneath the official name of the award, “The Avco World Trophy”, while plaques on the other side of the cylindrical base list the team members and “Presented to the Winnipeg Jets World Champions 1975-76”. The trophy’s cup has dents to on its lip to note, as well as loss and tarnish to both its silver-plating and that on the base.
