Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/1/2011
This collection of six Gordie Howe Red Wings items obtained from someone close to the Howe family includes Mr. Hockey's 1951 NHL player-of-the-week Schaefer Award pewter mug. A Howe 1949 Stanley Cup playoffs artwork fills most of its 14 1/2" x 11 1/2" frame. Howe, Jack Adams and Clarence Campbell are among those who signed the cover of a 1966 program for Gordie Howe Day in Saskatoon, one of two signed programs included along with an autographed framed 10x8 and a Howe 1963-64 Parkhurst card. Please see our website description for more photos and information. “Schaefer Award, Player-of-the-week, National Hockey League, Gordie Howe, 2-10-51” is engraved on the front of the glass-bottomed mug, which has "Dunhill, Made in England" stamped on the bottom. Nicely preserved overall with a dent on the left side of the rim that does little to diminish its historical value;
Fine pencil likeness of Howe fills the framed Frank Williams artwork, which references Howe’s impressive stats through the Red Wings’ 1949 semi-finals against Bill Durnan and the Canadiens;
Gordie Howe Day program cover is signed by five others, including John Bucyk, John Bower, Doug Barkley;
Bill Gadsby and Johnny Wilson signed in ballpoint on the cover of a 1972 jersey retirement “25, 786 Career Goals” program with a traced-over Bobby Hull signature;
Framed 10x8 photo is signed “Gordon Howe, Mr. Hockey” in lighter black marker;
Howe 1963-64 Parkhurst card in in G/VG condition.
