Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

The NHL was forever changed with the addition of a pair of imports to the Leafs roster in 1973. Blueliner Borje Salming would spend the next 17 seasons in the league on his way into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Borje played a shortened 41-game campaign during the 1985-86 NHL season, scoring 7 goals and adding an additional 15 helpers for a total of 22 points. This home white uniform of the Toronto Maple Leafs has not taken nearly as much punishment as the often-targeted Salming, himself. But the game wear is quite evident as the right arm reveals a single stitched team repair and across on the opposite arm, another repair patch has been added near a smaller unrepaired hole. Three smaller repairs are there on the front with another on the lower back. More evidence of game wear includes washed out stick marks and some good pilling inside. This Maska knit is no longer tagged in the collar but the larger embroidered manufacturer's logo on the lower back hem has the small asterix up in the top corner. Salming's name runs across the original plate above his famous number "21" which also appears in single-layer tackle twill on each arm. The fight strap, a loop style, remains in the tail. Best is the stylish alternate's "A" sewn onto the upper chest in a slight tilt to the left. Outstanding!
