Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

The Montreal Canadiens carried on their incredible Stanley Cup success of the previous decades once again throughout the 1970s. Superstar Guy Lafleur led the way for a Hall of Fame roster that featured the likes of Serge Savard, Frank Mahovlich and Yvan Cournoyer, all of whom are represented in this lot of 10 game-used sticks from that era. A total of 25 members of the 1979-80 Canadiens have signed a Lafleur game-issued stick, including the Flower and fellow HOFers Robinson, Shutt, Gainey, Lapointe and Savard. A John Ferguson stick from the end of his career and a Pete Mahovlich gamer signed by seven hockey legends, including Howe, Lindsay, Richard, Beliveau and Lafleur, are other highlights. Please see our website description for a complete listing and more details. This Lafleur 1979-80 Canadiens team-signed Sher-Wood game-issued stick with “14 Mars 1980” date stamp is autographed in fine blue marker by 25, including Mondou, Gainey, Shutt, Tremblay, Engblom, Jarvis, Napier, Lapointe, Herron, Lafleur, Lambert, Houle, Risebrough, Robinson, Nilan, Gingras, Lupien, Savard and Larouche;
Peter Mahovlich’s Sher-Wood gamer is signed by Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau and Guy Lafleur on the now-bare blade. Red Wings legends Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay have signed on the front, and Gump Worsley and Jacques Lemaire have signed on the back of the shaft, which has “20 Mahovlich P.” stamped on the front below Peter’s well-worn white tape knob. Solid gamer has cracks along the top edge of the blade that do little to diminish this multi-signed stick’s display;
“Ferguson 22” is stamped on the shaft of a John Ferguson Sher-Wood gamer with “1 3 71” written in pencil low on the back of the shaft. No original tape remains on this game-used stick which has a few cracks at the heel of the rough bottom edge of the narrow blade, which has a small square of fiberglass missing at the heel. Really weathered look to the late Canadiens policeman’s gamer makes for a cool display piece;
Yvan Cournoyer placed a bold black marker signature on the shaft of his unique Sher-Wood stick, a super-heavy practice stick which retains his white tape knob that was wielded by the Roadrunner to develop his amazing wrist shot strength;
Cournoyer has signed in blue marker low on the shaft of his Canadien game-used stick that retains his black tape jobs on the knob and essentially straight blade.
Pierre Larouche’s dedicated ballpoint signature is faint but legible on the shaft of his game-used Koho stick with a “Oct 09 1981” date stamp that retains his tape jobs on the knob and blade;
Serge Savard’s black marker signature is legible on the bare blade of his post-playing career Sher-Wood PMP 7000;
Yvon Lambert placed a dedicated ballpoint autograph low on the shaft of his Koho 221 gamer with a blackened bare blade and Yvon’s white tape knob;
Rejean Houle placed a dedicated ballpoint signature high on the front of the shaft of his CCM PPM 101 game-used stick. “22 Aout 1980” date stamp on the back of the shaft which retains Rejean’s white tape knob and black tape job on the blade;
Mario Tremblay's Canadien 6001 stick with a bare blade has a “Jan 22 1982” date stamp on the back of the shaft which retains his black tape job on the knob.
