Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2011

The innovator behind the modern slap shot, the late, great Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion used this CCM Custom Pro when he was at the peak of his game with the Montreal Canadiens dynasty that produced a record five straight Stanley Cups. This wood beauty with "Geoffrion 5" stamped on the front of the shaft dates from the late-1950s or early 1960s, the era when Boom Boom (HOF 1972, d. 2006) joined Habs icon Maurice "Rocket" Richard in the NHL's exclusive 50-goal club in 1960-61. The black bands low on the shaft are mostly intact and Geoffrion's original tape jobs remain on the knob and blade, which has a light aging crack at the toe that is common to sticks of this vintage resulting not from game play but rather a result of the way they were manufactured. Nice game use shows in red goalpost paint on the front of the shaft. See our website description for more information about this Boomer game-used beauty! More game use shows in black marks on the heel and low on the shaft of this solid vintage gamer. A faint “Made in Canada 10-3” stamp sits on the back of the shaft below the knob. The middle of the back of the shaft has a series of diagonal etch marks. There is a loose strand of black bulldog tape at the smooth, chip-free heel. Otherwise the tape job on the blade is in gorgeous shape with little wear to report along the bottom edge.
