Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2011
This lot of 5 vintage hockey broadsides includes 4 original 1920s Minneapolis Millers. Another vintage sign advertises a 1960 Canadian Olympic team's pre-tournament game. "Hockey Thrills" is trumpeted across the top of all four Millers broadsides, with two signs each promoting games against St. Paul and Tulsa. A pair of signs both advertise “December 26-28” games against Tulsa while two others Millers broadsides announce a December 22 game against St. Paul. Printed on cardboard stock, the signs exhibit weathering, some creasing and general soiling. They are complete and whole other than a hole where there is a tear in the middle of one of the St. Paul posters. One of the Tulsa posters has a small piece missing from the bottom left edge and a three-inch cut in the top left corner. That said, these four early hockey posters make for a fascinating display along with a vintage 1960 poster exhorting fans to come out to “See Canada’s Olympic Team in Action!” for a Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen exhibition game in Moose Jaw prior to the Squaw Valley tournament. Printed in red letters on heavy paper stock, the poster measures 21” x 16” and has two horizontal creases, the bottom one being the more pronounced of the two, and a tear on the right edge just above the upper crease.
