Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

This single-game Team Canada 2010 Olympics game-worn jersey is golden, identical in look to the ones worn by Sidney Crosby and company
for the host nation’s stirring final victory over the United States in Vancouver. Joe Thornton’s #19 Olympic gamer offered here is from
the set worn by Team Canada for its round-robin game against Switzerland on February 18, which saw Sid the Kid deliver the decisive
shootout goal in a 3-2 win at Canada Hockey Place. Joe made his second straight Olympic appearance count. The San Jose Sharks’ star
center contributed one goal and one assist and played in all seven games as he helped Canada claim gold, putting the disappointment of
Turin four years earlier in the past. The centerpiece of these Nike jerseys is the team crest Canada introduced exclusively for the
Olympic tournament. Because the International Olympic Committee enforced its rule forbidding the use of national federation logos,
Hockey Canada commissioned a Musqueam artist to develop a suitable alternative. The thunderbird and eagle and the heralded hockey
player and stick are among several icons and cultural symbols that are depicted on the red twill fabric in the middle of the Maple Leaf
crest, which is outlined in white embroidery accented by gold thread. The advanced polyester/spandex fabric used in these white-and-red
gamers makes for a remarkably lightweight jersey. The Nike logo, size “62” and “Made In Canada” are printed in the back of the collar
above a sewn-on IIHF tag. Nike’s inventory bar code is heat-pressed into the inner rear hem. Inside the jersey, a small Hockey Canada
logo patch is sewn behind the Canada crest. The Canadian Olympic Committee logo is embroidered on a patch sewn onto the right rear tail
and a Vancouver 2010 patch is sewn onto the left sleeve. A red Nike logo is sewn on the right breast. Sewn-on double twill numbers are
red-and-black on the back and white-and-black on both sleeves. White twill surname letters are glued onto a sewn-on nameplate. The
fight strap is intact and a long laundry instruction fly tag is sewn into the inside of the left seam. Game use shows in a number of
marks, including a few small black marks on the hem of the right cuff and a light small mark between the elbow seam and the lower red
stripe. Two small equipment impression spots are located just above the shoulder seam above the #19 on the right sleeve. The left
sleeve displays various black marks. Another black mark shows on the upper red stripe on the left front tail with other light marks
above it, including a faint bit of red paint transfed in the middle of the jersey beneath the Canada crest. Comes with a Hockey Canada
letter of authenticity signed by president Bob Nicholson. [red] Addendum; A security feature is embedded into all Olympic jerseys by Hockey Canada. Hockey Canada doesn't disclose the process, only that if there is ever any question of authenticity by a holder of a Team Canada game-used jersey in the future, they can have Hockey Canada confirm upon supplying the physical jersey for inspection.
