Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Fine trio of 8" by 10" team photographs is highlighted by the International League pennant-winning Montreal Royals of 1951 and '52. The '51 photo includes the Montreal Star newspaper clipping of the team photo pasted on the back and identifies Al Gionfriddo, Jim Gilliam and Tommy Lasorda sitting in the front row, with manager Walter Alston fourth from the left in the second. Johnny Podres and Don Hoak join Gilliam and Lasorda in the front row of the '52 pic, with Alston in the middle of the back row. The Royals also took the title in 1945, with that team featuring 20-game winners Jean-Pierre Roy and John Gabbard, and managed by Bruno Betzel. Fascinating VG photos show the stands of Montreal's Delormier Stadium in the background.
