Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Tantalizing treasure here is from the year history was made, with Jackie Robinson suiting up with the Montreal Royals, a year before breaking the Major League baseball color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers. That's Jackie standing fifth from the right, with the newspaper caption affixed to the back reading in part "The Montreal Royals clinched their second straight International League pennant August 25.....it was the second earliest pennant-clinching date for 154 games in the circuit." All are identified in the photo, taken at Montreal's Delormier Stadium, with notables including manager Clay Hopper, shortstop Al Campanis, catcher Herman Franks and pitcher Jean-Pierre Roy. Approximately 8" by 10" photo is VG with a few barely noticeable and non-detracting pinholes. Jackie batted .349, stole 40 bases and led the Royals to the '46 Little World Series!
