Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Three years after being passed over in the first expansion of the modern era, Vancouver finally made it to the bigs for the 1970-71 season. Offered here are items from the Canucks' inaugural NHL season, including a magnificent opening game program, a 1970-71 Canucks yearbook, a Pacific Coliseum souvenir pamphlet with ticket stubs from the arena's first two events in 1968 stapled to the back, and a pair of vintage 1970 Vancouver Sun newspaper sections, including an NHL preview and the sports section from the day after the Canucks' 3-1 opening night loss to the Kings. The October 9, 1970, Vol. 1, No. 1, edition of the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Magazine features Canucks and Kings lineups in the centerfold, with pen marks through the numbers of four Vancouver players to note, including Dale Tallon, whose new number "19" is handwritten.
