Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

Exceptional photographs of 1930s and early 1940s NHL action at Madison Square Garden are possible with this collection of 18 vintage negatives. Both New York teams, the Americans and the Rangers, are featured in these original 4" x 5" negatives, 3 of which are glass affairs. The majority of the photos were published in the next day's New York Daily News. Actual dated newspaper clippings, with captions, accompany many of the negatives, as do several modern prints, making for an intriguing "complete package". The glass negatives are from a December 1934 Americans game against Boston featuring three shots of a stick-swinging melee involving Bruins HOFer Nels Stewart and the Amerks' Lloyd "Deed" Klein. Shots from Amerks games against the Maroons, Red Wings and Black Hawks appear in 13 negatives dating from 1938 through 1941. The two other negatives feature scenes from the Rangers' 9-0 win over the Canadiens on February 4, 1940. Charlie Conacher, Ching Johnson, Dit Clapper, Jack Adams and referee Sprague Cleghorn are among the HOFers who appear in these old-time hockey scenes of rough-housing and goalmouth action! Negatives are still in their original dated envelopes and a terrific treasure for hockey historians.
