The NHL went outdoors in the 2000s and featured here are 97 pucks from the league’s first three games played under open skies,
including 48 from the inaugural Heritage Classic in Edmonton. Another 27 pucks are from the first edition of the Winter Classic in
Buffalo in 2008 and 22 more are from the 2009 Winter Classic at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The 48 Heritage Classic pucks feature a full-
color Oilers logo in the middle of the screened face with “Edmonton Oilers” along the top, “November 22, 2003” to the left of a
“Vintage NHL” logo at the bottom, and “vs. Montreal Canadiens” to the right. The puck’s reverse has “Official Game Puck” in silver
letters at the top of the shaded ring with “In Glas Co” at the bottom, and the NHL shield in the middle with commissioner Gary
Bettman’s facsimile signature below it. The 27 pucks from the first American outdoor game feature a thin silver-white-and-black ring on
the screened face around “National Hockey League” at the top, the 2008 Winter Classic logo in the middle, and “Pittsburgh Penguins vs
Buffalo Sabres” at the bottom. The 22 pucks from the following year’s game in Chicago feature the 2009 Winter Classic Wrigley Field
logo in the middle, and “Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Red Wings” at the bottom. The reverse of the 49 Winter Classic pucks all have
thin silver ring with “National Hockey League” at the top in the middle, the NHL crest with “Official Game Puck” on either side, and
commissioner Gary Bettman’s facsimile signature on the bottom. All 97 pucks have “In Glas Co” between two NHL crests on the edge of the
