Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Vintage caramel-toned goalie mask was manufactured back in the 1960s in the wake of Jacques Plante's groundbreaking introduction of facial protection for netminders. This thick and solid beauty with vintage number "30" decals on the forehead is the type worn by numerous minor leaguer goalies of the day who gratefully followed Plante's lead in protecting their noggins from the increasingly dangerous slap shot. This original has a repaired crack on the left side of the nose. No straps are attached and slight remnants attached to the internal adhesive are the only trace of foam padding that remain inside this magnificent piece. A must-have early example for any goalie mask collection.
