Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Fascinating and thought-provoking is this stick manufactured to play ice polo, a popular sport played on frozen ponds with a ball, notably by college students in the New England states in the 1880s before ice hockey "took over". "Wright & Ditson - Boston" is stamped twice on the lower shaft, just before it starts to curve. The shaft itself is round and then becomes four-sided square towards the bottom and blade. Original twine is remarkably still up on the handle. Measuring 44" in length, the relic exhibits some game use too, with minor wear along the botton of the blade and a few hacks/dents down low. A couple of dabs of grey paint are on the shaft, but overall, this baby is solid and in fantastic condition. Does your big-time stick collection include one of these?!
