Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Olympic medals are presented solely to athletes so the International Ice Hockey Federation made sure that the national team coaches of the top three teams at the 2002 Salt Lake City games had some hardware of their own to take home! Offered here are unawarded examples of the same gold, silver and bronze medals struck by the IIHF and presented to the coaching staffs of the 2002 Olympic medalists, including head coach Pat Quinn and his gold medal-champion Team Canada staff. All three medals (Ron Wilson's U.S. staff won silver, and HOFer Slava Fetisov's Russians claimed bronze) measure a shade under 2 3/4" in diameter and feature a hockey scene with "Salt Lake City" printed below the goalie on the face and the IIHF logo on the reverse. "2002" is printed across the top of the medal just below where the light-blue-and-yellow ribbon is attached. Really rare opportunity to claim a trio of unique IIHF 2002 Olympic medals.
